I love The Three Musketeers saga. The Count of Monte Cristo is also one of my favorite stories (though often I prefer to Disney-fied version). It’s nice to break out of my normal YA fantasy reading sometimes.
I loved thundering Porthos, and many of the other characters. The end was tragic, and it stuck with me for several days. There was an expectation that more would come from the king’s twin, but I believe the story evolved more around exploring conflicting loyalties than anything else.
If you’re looking to read a classic, this one is fun. Make sure you get a good translation.
